Meet Our Physicians
George G. Wedd, III MD
Dr. George Wedd, III, was an original partner in Primary Health Group-Ironbridge in 1980 and has been providing excellent healthcare services to Richmond and Chesterfield for more than 30 years. He received his medical degree at VCU’s Medical College of Virginia and completed his Family Practice Residency at DeWitt US Army Hospital. He has been continuously board certified in Family Medicine since 1978.
Dr. Wedd is married with three grown children and enjoys photography and golf in his leisure time.
Harriet Schanzer, MD
Dr. Harriet Schanzer joined Primary Health Group-Ironbridge in 1986 after completing her Family Practice Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She earned her medical degree at VCU’s Medical College of Virginia. A board certified physician, Dr. Schanzer has been serving the patients of Chesterfield and Richmond for more than 20 years.
Dr. Schanzer enjoys an active life that includes art in many forms, reading, running, hiking and travel with family and friends.
Peter W. Smithson, MD
Dr. Peter Smithson, M.D., joined our practice in 1988 after completing his Family Practice Residency at Chippenham Hospital in partnership with VCU’s Medical College of Virginia. He received his medical degree at University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom.
Dr. Smithson is board certified in Family Medicine and has been serving patients here in Richmond for more than 30 years. He enjoys bird watching, traveling and fishing in his leisure time.
Sara Scott Breeden, MD
Dr. Sara Breeden joined Primary Health Group-Ironbridge in 1998 after receiving her medical degree from East Carolina University and completing her residency at Hanover Family Practice through a partnership with VCU’s Medical College of Virginia. She is board certified in Family Medicine and has been providing medical care to patients for more than 10 years.
Dr. Breeden has two children and enjoys traveling and cooking in her spare time.
F. Wayne Mathewson, MD
Dr. Wayne Mathewson received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech. He received his medical degree from University of Virginia and completed his residency training at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He is Board Certified in Family Practice and has been with Primary Health Group-Ironbridge for two years.
Dr. Mathewson lives in Richmond and is married with one child. He enjoys playing tennis, woodworking and playing the piano.
Vicki B. Latham, MD
Dr. Vicki Latham joined Primary Health Group-Ironbridge in 2007. She received her medical degree from VCU’s Medical College of Virginia and completed her residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Latham is board certified in Internal Medicine. After her residency, Dr. Latham completed a fellowship training program in Geriatrics.
Dr. Latham is married and enjoys traveling, theater and swimming. She is actively involved in The Links Incorporated, an international, non-profit organization of women promoting leadership and community service.
Christy McLean, MD
Dr. Christy McLean received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Richmond and her Master of Arts in Psychology from The College of William & Mary. After working as a counselor and case manager for persons with mental illness, she found her calling in medicine. She received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. McLean is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She specializes in Internal Medicine and treats patients age 18 and over. She is welcoming new patients.
